MY TEaching philosophy
I know how important it is for students to have an enthusiastic, devoted teacher who motivates and inspires them. Throughout my education in psychology and law, I have encountered various unique teaching formats. These include traditional lecturing in the USA, problem-based learning in the Netherlands, and online learning during COVID-19. Each of these techniques comes with its own pros and cons and I have taken the most helpful bits from each and created my own unique philosophy. I establish an active, student-centered environment that emphasizes continuous comprehension checks, going at YOUR pace, and using creative and fun learning methods (games, interactive activities) to keep you engaged at every stage. I teach psychologists, lawyers, actors, doctors, engineers, and other working professionals, as well as children and teenagers. No student falls through the cracks. In my English language classes at the Refugee Project Maastricht, I have learned to teach content in a creative and engaging way, making space for learners of all different levels and from all different backgrounds.
Whether you’re just starting to learn the English alphabet or you’re going from C1-C2 (or maybe you’re somewhere in between), I can tailor our lessons accordingly. I use a topic-based curriculum with plenty of real world examples. I have a separate curriculum for business English students that involves job interviews, sales, management, conflict resolution, formality, and much more. Lessons can be held in person or online.
